Background Information As Native Americans settled across North America, they developed differing ways of life. The environment where they lived determined their food, tools, clothing, and homes. Native American stories and art also reflected their lifestyles and their connections to the environment. As you examine the sources, think about how different groups of Native Americans adapted to their physical surroundings. In each source, look for the close connections Native Americans had with the resources that surrounded them.
Think about how the local environment can affect a culture. Then read the Compelling Question for this lesson. What questions can you ask to help you answer this Compelling Question? Create a graphic organizer like the one below. Write your Supporting Questions in your graphic organizer.
